Technology: Online File Storage

Cloud Storage

There are several options for online “cloud” storage. If you have a Gmail account, you already have Google Drive storage. You are able to sign up for OneDrive through Microsoft, and there is Drop Box.

These cloud storage options use your internet connect to save documents, pictures, programs, etc. You are able to download the storage option, and you are able to access it through either a shortcut on your desktop, or through the windows explorer.

On the Go

Each of these cloud storage offer a very helpful feature of being mobile. You are able to download apps for your mobile devices (both cell phone and tablets), so you are able to access your documents while on the go.

These apps can be found at the Google Play store as well as on iTunes.

You are also about to share files with people without emailing the actually document. The online storage allows you to email a link, or add a person as an authorized editor so they are able to work on documents together.

Google Drive

Google Drive is powered by Google (of course).  You start with 15 GB of free online Storage space, plus the use of Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides apps. That way if you do not have the Microsoft Office products on your computer or device you are able to still edit and access your files.

Google states: "Your file security is crucial. That’s why every file in Drive stays safe no matter what happens to your smartphone, tablet or computer. Drive is encrypted using SSL, the same security protocol used on Gmail and other Google services."

If you need more storage space, Google does offer plans were you can purchase more space. They also have offers for some devices that allow you to get more space for free (check it out here).

OneDrive

OneDrive comes with Office Online, so you can create, edit, and share documents regardless of the type of device your working on. You start with 15 GB of free storage, and offer plans so you can purchase additional storage. You can earn extra storage too.15 GB earned in extra 15 GB of storage when you backup your camera roll to your OneDrive. You are able to earn when referring friend to OneDrive. Both of you will get an extra 500 MB, and you can refer up to 10 friends for a maximum of 5 GB.

OneDrive has a list of apps that work with OneDrive as well. SO if you are using apps currently and need a place to store items, check out the app list here.

DropBox

DropBox has many of the same features listed above. You start with 2 GB free space, and can pay for more space if you need it. You are able to automatically back up your camera photos. I have yet to find a way to get additional storage free from DropBox.
